Common
Ground Sunday
It is part of human nature (our sinful nature) to turn
inward. This happens when we start to see the church as
something to serve us rather than as a place to encourage
us to serve.
To keep our focus where God wants it to be, we love to
practice what we call common ground Sunday. This is where
we have a shortened church service and then head out and
continue to worship God as we serve the people in our
community.
"On common ground Sunday this fall, my husband and I
went garbage picking around mirror lake. We put on our
heavy duty rubber gloves and found lots of garbage! It was
crazy to see how much people throw away, and some of the
trash was a foot away from a garbage can! It was really
rewarding to pick up each cigarette butt and pop can, we
felt like we we're actually helping. Mirror Lake is such a
beautiful spot and without trash it's even more beautiful.
I felt so thankful that God gave us this beautiful
creation, and I realized that we need to do more to make
sure it stays beautiful!!!"

"On Common Ground Sunday, I took two plates of cookies
to take to the Fire Station and to Superstore. I stopped at
the Fire Station first and the parking lot was FULL, so I
didn't feel I could take only 1 plate in, so I took both
plates inside. The firefighters said "Oh, we're never here,
so it's funny that you would find us here." (I guess they
had a course and were all there!) They were very surprised,
pleased and blessed by Rez's outreach."
